1972 NL Game/Player of Note

September 15, 1972

Philadelphia's Steve Carlton became the NL's 1st 20 game winner last night by pitching a gem against Montreal. Carlton went the distance for the 25th time this season and got his 9th shutout as the Phillies defeated the Expos 4-0. The fact that he has been able to win 20 with the anemic hitting, 5th place Phillies, is a testament to his pitching prowess this season.

Steve Carlton went 9 strong innings at Veteran's Stadium as the Philadelphia
Phillies beat the woeful Montreal Expos 4 to 0.

Montreal was unable to recover after Philadelphia went ahead in the 3rd inning
scoring a single run on 2 base hits. That early run support was enough for
Carlton(20-15) and Philadelphia. Both teams totaled 5 hits on the night.

Mike Torrez(4-18) was hit with the loss. He allowed 2 runs and 3 hits in 5
innings.
