Cleveland's Gaylord Perry got his 17th win and 5th shutout of the season in a 3-0 victory over the Chicago White Sox. His ERA now stands at a league leading 1.71. The Tiger's Joe Coleman threw a 2-hitter against the Texas Rangers, allowing Detroit to come away with a 1-0 victory. Milwaukee's Earl Stephenson got help from Ken Sanders in the Brewers 1-0 win over the Minnesota Twins.

Mike Cuellar pitched a complete game and Paul Blair had 2 base hits at
Memorial Stadium as the Baltimore Orioles beat the Kansas City Royals by the
count of 3 to 1.
Baltimore erupted with the game winning runs in the 8th inning plating 2 runs
on 3 base hits. Blair led off and started the attack as he singled. Bruce
Dal Canton then threw a pitch that got away from the catcher. Bobby Grich
then doubled. Two outs later Terry Crowley stepped up to the plate and he
ripped a base-knock. Baltimore had 8 hits for the night.
Cuellar(8-8), allowing 1 run for the game, picked up the victory. The loss was
charged to Dal Canton(7-2). He allowed 8 hits and 1 walk in 7 and 2/3
innings.

Clyde Wright tossed a complete game as the California Angels beat the New York
Yankees by a score of 5 to 4.
California went ahead for good in the 5th inning plating an isolated run on 3
base hits. California managed 11 hits in their victory.
Wright(9-5) was the winner allowing 4 runs for the game. Mike Kekich(5-5) was
hit with the loss. He allowed a few too many baserunners giving up 11 hits
and 3 walks in 6 innings.
Wth the win California now has a record of 36-42. New York has a record of
42-30 after the loss.

Gaylord Perry delivered 9 solid innings as the Cleveland Indians topped the
Chicago White Sox by a score of 3 to 0 at Cleveland Stadium.
Chicago was unable to claim the lead after Cleveland went ahead in the 2nd
inning plating one baserunner on 2 hits. Graig Nettles doubled. After an
out was recorded, Ron Lolich stepped in and he doubled. Chris Chambliss was
the next batter, but he struck out. That was all Perry(17-3) needed.
Cleveland had only 6 hits for the night.
Dave Lemonds(2-5) was hit with the loss. He gave up 5 hits and 1 walk in 6
innings.

Joe Coleman was on top of his game, blanking Texas on just 2 hits as the
Detroit Tigers bested the Texas Rangers 1 to 0 at Tiger
Stadium.
Coleman(9-7) was very good in the win. He didn't allow much, just 2 hits and
7 walks in 9 innings. Detroit managed only 4 hits on the night.
Don Stanhouse(0-1) was given the loss. He pitched 7 innings allowing 4 hits
and 8 walks.
BOSTON AT OAKLAND

First baseman Mike Epstein hit a homerun as the Oakland A's topped the Boston

9 hits and no walks. Boston made it exciting in the 9th, but they were
unable to push the needed runs across.
Rollie Fingers recorded his 8th save. Lynn McGlothen(2-2) was hit with the
loss. He surrendered 3 runs and 5 hits in 8 innings.

Earl Stephenson(2-2) and Jim Perry(8-5) treated the Minnesota fans to a fine
pitching duel at Metropolitan Stadium. The Milwaukee Brewers eventually
emerged as victors over the Minnesota Twins by the score of 1 to 0.
The game was decided in the 8th inning. After two outs Ellie Rodriguez drew a
walk. Rick Auerbach followed and he drew a walk. Mike Ferraro then banged
out a single. Ferraro took second on the throw. Ken Sanders was perfect in
relief and gained credit for his 4th save.
