On a day that the New York Yankees dropped both games of a doubleheader against the Oakland A's, the Detroit Tigers defeated the Kansas City Royals 4-0 behind the 4-hit shutout pitching performance of Joe Coleman. With the win and the Yankee loses, the Tigers moved into 1st place in the AL East for the first time this season. Detroit has been on a roll lately, winning 9 of their last 10 games.
