1972 AL Game of Note

Think Red Instead!!!: July 2011May 10, 1972

12 days after throwing a 1-hit shutout for his 1st AL win, California Angel Nolan Ryan threw another 1-hitter, this time against the Boston Red Sox. Ryan walked 3 and struck out 11 in the Angel's 5-0 victory.

Nolan Ryan threw a 1 hit shutout as the California Angels beat the Boston Red
Sox by a score of 5 to 0.
 
Ryan(3-2) was tremendous on the mound for California.  He allowed only 1 hit
and 3 walks in 9 innings.  Ryan struckout 11 Boston batters improving his ERA
from 2.03 to 1.51.  California managed 15 hits in their victory.  
 
Marty Pattin(2-2) was the loser.  He was knocked around by California,
allowing 11 hits and 2 walks in 5 innings.  Del Rice was very impressed with
his pitcher, Ryan, 'He had unusually good pitch placement tonight.  It was
almost unfair - but a beautiful game to watch from where I sat'
