New York Met's pitcher Gary Gentry struck out 15 batters in a 2-1 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates today. In a well pitched game by both teams, the Mets prevailed on Ken Boswell's 2-run homer in the 3rd inning and Gentry's ability to wiggle out of trouble throughout the game.

Gary Gentry racked up an impressive total of 15 strikeouts at Shea Stadium as
the New York Mets beat the Pittsburgh Pirates by the count of 2 to
1.
Gentry(1-0) looked very much in control throughout the day. He gave up just 9
hits and 1 walk in 9 innings. Neither team managed to score after the 3rd
inning.
Steve Blass(0-1) was given the loss. Everyone seemed to enjoy the performance
of Gentry - except Pittsburgh. Bill Virdon lamented, 'He just was 'on' this
afternoon. He was keeping our guys off balance all game. A fine game by a
good strikeout pitcher - makes it a fun game for the hometown fans -
unfortunately we were the visitors!'
