1972 NL Championship Series Game 3

October 9, 1972

The Pittsburgh bullpen gave a fine effort today, leading the Pirates to a 5-1 victory over the Cincinnati Reds in Game 3 of the NL Championship Series. After the Reds scored a run in the 2nd inning, Pirate starter Nelson Briles was injured while batting in the top of the 3rd inning. Bruce Kison came on to pitch 4 scoreless innings, Bob Miller threw 2 scoreless innings, and Luke Walker pitched a scoreless 9th. In the meantime, Pittsburgh scored 2 runs in the 5th and 3 runs in the 7th, more than enough scoring to give the Pirates the win and a 2-1 lead in the Series.
