WEB GEMS- Bot 6th: Jimmy Stewart robbed Steve Carlton of a base hit.
Steve Carlton mowed down 10 Houston batters and left fielder Greg Luzinski
rocketed 3 homeruns and had 4 RBI as the Philadelphia Phillies outscored the
Houston Astros 8 to 1.
Luzinski was in a groove all evening. He popped a two-run clout over the
fence in the 1st inning, cracked a solo homerun in the 3rd inning and blasted
a solo shot in the 7th inning. Philadelphia had 11 hits for the night.
Carlton(8-3) got the victory, allowing 1 run for the game. The loss was
charged to Jerry Reuss(4-5). Harry Walker was upset after the game. 'I
don't like to complain but did you see that umpires strike zone?', he said.
'Maybe they ought to start calling the strike zone the way it's printed in
the rule book.'
