Mickey Lolich took a no-hitter into the 8th inning as the Detroit Tigers
outscored the Minnesota Twins in 10 innings 1 to 0.

Neither team managed to score in the first nine innings. Detroit won it in
the 10th inning. Lolich drew a walk. After an out was recorded, Aurelio
Rodriguez came to the plate and ripped a single. Detroit had only 4 hits for
the night.

It was the 2nd shutout of the year for Lolich(9-2). The left-handed Lolich
had his no-hit bid broken up by Rick Renick who singled with two outs in the
8th inning. Dick Woodson(7-3) absorbed the loss. He gave up 1 run and 4
hits in 9 and 1/3 innings.

Lolich was obviously very pleased with his performance in the aftermath of the
game, 'It was just one of those games where everything worked. My arm felt
great, heck, I could have pitched another two or three innings. I only hope
that I can do it again next time out!'
