Halfway thru June and the New York Mets now hold the top spot in the NL East. In what has been a battle all season long between the teams in the East, the Mets have been on a roll this month, posting a league best 10-3 mark in June so far. Chicago and Pittsburgh are hot on their heels and the rest of the East teams aren't much further behind.
In the NL West, the Cincinnati Reds still hold the top spot with the LA Dodgers right behind them. The San Francisco Giants have been on a downward spiral and are now in 4th place, 8.5 games back.

Mickey Lolich took a no-hitter into the 8th inning as the Detroit Tigers
outscored the Minnesota Twins in 10 innings 1 to 0.

Neither team managed to score in the first nine innings. Detroit won it in
the 10th inning. Lolich drew a walk. After an out was recorded, Aurelio
Rodriguez came to the plate and ripped a single. Detroit had only 4 hits for
the night.

It was the 2nd shutout of the year for Lolich(9-2). The left-handed Lolich
had his no-hit bid broken up by Rick Renick who singled with two outs in the
8th inning. Dick Woodson(7-3) absorbed the loss. He gave up 1 run and 4
hits in 9 and 1/3 innings.

Lolich was obviously very pleased with his performance in the aftermath of the
game, 'It was just one of those games where everything worked. My arm felt
great, heck, I could have pitched another two or three innings. I only hope
that I can do it again next time out!'

Parsons carried a no-hitter into the 9th inning before settling for a 1-0, one-hit, shutout victory over the Texas Rangers. In a game that saw great pitching from both teams, Parsons had his no-hitter broken up by Frank Howard with one out in the 9th. Bill Parsons carried a no-hitter into the 9th inning as the Milwaukee Brewers
outscored the Texas Rangers 1 to 0.

Parsons(4-5) simply dominated Texas. He didn't allow much, just 1 hit and 1
walk in 9 innings improving his ERA from 3.69 to 3.21. The right-handed
Parsons lost a no-hitter when Frank Howard doubled with one out in the 9th
inning. Texas had a chance to come back in the 9th but they came up short.

The loss was charged to Pete Broberg(3-4). He pitched 7 innings allowing 3
hits and 4 walks. When questioned about the loss, Ted Williams said, 'The
fans got to see an exciting game out there this afternoon. Unfortunately, we
couldn't get it done this time. Next time, though, we'll be the clubhouse
with all the smiles.'
