1972 AL Standings

June 1, 1972

The Minnesota Twins had the best record in the month of May, and as a result, the Twins hold a 3 game lead over 2nd place Oakland in the AL West. Minnesota's pitchers have been the stingiest in the league, allowing the fewest runs scored against them.
In the AL East, the Cleveland Indians still hold the top spot. My Detroit Tigers continue to hover around the .500 mark in Wins and Losses and are in 3rd place, 5 games behind the Indians.

1972 NL NewsRecap

June 1, 1972

Chicago Cubs outfielder Billy Williams continues to dominate NL pitchers, leading the league in all three Triple Crown categories. Still hitting over .400, Williams also has hit more than double the number of HR's the runner ups have hit. His teammate, pitcher Fergie Jenkins, leads the NL with 8 wins.

1972 AL Game of Note: Mil. at Det.

May 24, 1972

A rare feat, for me, happened in today's game between the Milwaukee Brewers and Detroit Tigers. Trailing 2-0 the Tigers hit back to back to back homeruns in the 6th inning and went on to defeat the Brewers 4-2. Dick McAuliffe started the homerun barrage by hitting a 2-run shot. The next batter, Al Kaline homered to right-center field and Norm Cash completed the Trifecta with a moonshot into the upper deck in right.

In a close game the Detroit Tigers put 4 runs on the scoreboard in the 6th
inning and got by the Milwaukee Brewers by the score of 4 to 2.

Detroit delivered all the runs required in the 6th inning when they tallied 4
runs on 4 hits. The big moment was provided by Dick McAuliffe who brought a
roar from the partisan Tiger Stadium fans when he popped a two-run clout over
the fence. Detroit totaled 7 hits on the night.

Les Cain(1-0) got credit for the victory, pitching 8 and 2/3 innings and
allowing 2 runs. Chuck Seelbach preserved the game for Cain, recording his
his 4th save. Bill Parsons(2-5) was the loser. He allowed 3 homeruns in 7
innings of work.

In the biggest lopsided score I can ever remember having, the Cincinnati Reds absolutely destroyed the Atlanta Braves 21-0. Reds starter Wayne Simpson threw a 2-hit shutout while Johnny Bench led the scoring attack with 4 RS and 4 RBI.

RBI at Riverfront Stadium as the Cincinnati Reds embarrassed the Atlanta
Braves by the lopsided score of 21 to 0.

Bench made sure the Cincinnati fans enjoyed themselves. He clubbed a two-run

stroked a base-hit bringing in a run in the 7th inning. Cincinnati kept the
